Digital security solutions provider Gemalto has announced the opening of a regional office in Côte d’Ivoire. The new addition joins the company’s roster of African offices; Gemalto already has a local presence in Ghana, Gabon, Nigeria, Kenya, Morocco, Burkina Faso, and South Africa.
In a press release, the company pointed to a “digital revolution” underway on the continent, and highlighted that communications and information technologies account for ten percent of Côte d’Ivoire’s GDP. Moreover, the country has a high cell phone penetration rate – even compared to the high standards found in many other African countries – at 90 percent.
Gemalto has been enjoying increasing revenues from mCommerce securitization, and has also been a high-profile organization in the growing area of contactless payment. With mobile commerce on the rise globally, and biometric security consequently becoming standard on mobile devices, Gemalto may be in a good position to benefit from what could be a booming regional market.
