The GSMA has announced that nominations for the 2018 Global Mobile (or ‘Glomo’) Awards are now open.
The Glomos are the high-profile industry awards doled out during the annual Mobile World Congress event in late winter. This year’s winners ranged widely across the mobile world, from Samsung SDS’s win for Best Mobile Security or Anti-Fraud Solution, to Huawei’s win for Outstanding Contribution for LTE Evolution to 5G; but they all served to demonstrate the increasing importance of mobile devices across a broadening number of sectors.
For next year, the GSMA says it has refined the award categories to better reflect the current state of the mobile industry. Thirty eight awards will be given out across the categories of Mobile Tech, Consumer, Content & Media, Device, Fourth Industrial Revolution, Government Excellence Awards, Outstanding Achievement, and Social Good.
As usual, the nominations will be judged by panels of experts — journalists, analysts, academics, and in some cases representatives of MNOs. The deadline for submissions is November 22nd, and a shortlist of nominees will be announced in January of next year. The awards themselves will be issued during MWC, which will run from February 26th to March 1st in Barcelona.
