HP has announced a suite of new tools to help businesses get on board with the impending Windows 10 operating system.
One such tool, called HP Sure Start, ensures that the BIOS – the root software that poses the greatest security threat if hacked – is safe upon starting up HP’s Elite notebooks or its HP ZBooks. Another offering is HP Subscription, a service that lets users pick from a number of hardware and software packages that will then be updated every two or three years; here the emphasis is on convenience and ease-of-use.
Perhaps the most important aspect of HP’s new Window’s 10 offerings is the company’s focus on identity security, with HP Client Security allowing IT departments to securely manage various user identities, and the availability of multi-factor authentication using smart cards, passwords, PINs, and fingerprint scanning, with the last being done on the device itself, thereby ensuring that there’s less risk of data breaches via transmission of the data. The company points out that most of its current notebooks have built-in, “hardened” fingerprint readers compatible with Windows Hello, the OS’s biometric security platform.
Microsoft has been keen to emphasize the number of third-party devices designed for Windows 10 compatibility, and for its part HP is eager to note in a press release that its “2015 commercial portfolio was designed with Windows 10 in mind”. With these and many other new offerings, HP is demonstrating its commitment to integrating Windows 10’s latest technology, not the least of which being its FIDO-compliant biometric capabilities.
