“OT-Morpho has worked with both HP and Microsoft to embed the solution into the new laptop device, which also leverages Windows 10 software to ensure that the device can be online almost constantly.”

OT-Morpho is taking advantage of the inaugural Mobile World Congress Americas to demonstrate its remote SIM technology in a laptop device. The company is showcasing an HP laptop equipped with its DakOTa 4.0 eSIM solution, which adheres to the GSMA’s Phase 2 specifications.

The eSIM allows the laptop’s cellular subscriptions to be reprogrammed remotely, helping to ensure that travelers can get online even when they’re traveling between different regions. OT-Morpho has worked with both HP and Microsoft to embed the solution into the new laptop device, which also leverages Windows 10 software to ensure that the device can be online almost constantly.

Oberthur Technologies, which has since merged with Safran Identity & Security to form OT-Morpho, first announced its intention of bringing the eSIM solution to Windows 10 devices in late winter of this year, and has since come through with an integration into a two-in-one tablet device from ASUS – the Transformer Mini. Now, with HP, OT-Morpho has another big name in consumer electronics on board, which may signal a larger shift taking shape as the industry moves toward eSIM-enabled, constant connectivity.
