Another new smartphone is helping to popularize fingerprint scanning across the lower end of the price spectrum: T-Mobile’s Revvl is now available from the MNO for only $125.
Other features of the phone include a 5.5″ HD display, a 5MP front camera and 13MP rear camera, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. The device runs on a 1.5GHz quad-core Mediatek MT6738 microprocessor, and the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.
But it’s the built-in fingerprint sensor that will make this device seem particularly flashy for consumers who usually stick to the cheapest end price range for smartphones. It isn’t yet clear which company provided the sensor technology or how fast the scanner is, but in any case the presence of such technology should appeal to some shoppers as it also helps to expand the proliferation of mobile biometric technology.
There has been at least one cheaper smartphone to feature a fingerprint sensor: Last summer’s ZMax Pro from ZTE, which was available for $99 after a rebate. Incidentally, the ZMax Pro is one of a few low-cost devices that T-Mobile has now made available through its Jump! phone upgrade plan for customers; along with the Revvl, it should help to get more fingers scanning.
