Samsung Making Progress in Note7 Recall Effort

September 27, 2016

“Now, Samsung says about 90 percent of its Note7 customers have accepted the offer, and in the US and Korea over 60 percent have already exchanged their original devices for updated phones that shouldn’t explode.”

Samsung Making Progress in Note7 Recall EffortSamsung is reporting progress in its huge recall effort for the Galaxy Note7 smartphone.

The recall of about 2.5 million units sold was launched in response to reports that a relatively small number of devices burst into flames due to a faulty charging mechanism. The issue is seen as a significant stumble for Samsung, whose pioneering iris-scanning smartphone had generated considerable excitement at its launch. Samsung has offered to replace all units already sold, and has been urging customers to participate in the program.

Now, Samsung says about 90 percent of its Note7 customers have accepted the offer, and in the US and Korea over 60 percent have already exchanged their original devices for updated phones that shouldn’t explode. Progress has been particularly marked in Singapore, where over 80 percent of Samsung’s Note7 customers have exchanged their devices.

In a statement announcing the statistics, Samsung emphasized its focus on customer safety, and mobile head DJ Koh said, “We are humbled by our customers’ loyalty to the Galaxy Note7 device.”
