Xiaomi Mi Max to Feature Rear-Mounted Fingerprint Sensor

May 6, 2016

New details and images have leaked of Xiaomi’s Mi Max smartphone, and they’re indicating that it’s going to have a huge screen and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Xiaomi Mi Max to Feature Rear-Mounted Fingerprint SensorThe device features a 6.4″ display and thin bezels, and has a metal backing chassis. Its technical specifications haven’t yet been officially confirmed, but are rumored to include a Hexa-Core Snapdragon 650 processor, 4G LTE connectivity, and a 4000mAh battery.

It’s also going to run on Android Marshmallow, which of course will support the fingerprint scanning capabilities of the circular sensor on the device’s upper back. The source of the Mi Max’s biometric technology isn’t yet clear, but it is worth noting that Xiaomi’s Mi5 smartphone, launched in February, featured a Fingerprint Cards sensor running Precise Biometrics algorithm software.

The Mi Max is expected to launch on May 10th with a price tag of about 1,299 yuan, or roughly $200 USD. If that bears out, Xiaomi will further the preponderance of mobile fingerprint sensors down the smartphone price spectrum, helping to cement the mobile fingerprint sensor’s status as a now-standard smartphone feature, even for cheaper smartphones.
