Azuga Launches Driver Monitoring System for Commercial Fleets

December 18, 2020

Azuga has released a new driver monitoring solution to help improve the safety of commercial fleets. The offering has been dubbed SafetyCam AI, and is available as an enhanced version of Azuga’s original dashcam product.

Azuga Launches Driver Monitoring System for Commercial Fleets

In practice, the SafetyCam AI will allow fleet managers to monitor their drivers for signs of drowsiness and distracted driving. The system uses multi-sensor HD cameras equipped with facial recognition technology to generate a livestream of each driver while they are on the road. The system will then send a real-time notification whenever it detects a potentially dangerous event, such as a hard break or a sharp turn, or if it notices that the driver does not have their eyes on the road. Videos captured with the system are stored for 30 days.

Azuga will also be making professional risk analysts available to customers that opt for the premium version of the SafetyCam AI service. Those experts will tag dangerous driving events to highlight examples of risky on-road behavior, thereby providing companies with teachable moments that they can use to train their staff.

The SafetyCam AI can be mounted on the dashboard of a vehicle. The offering is part of a broader driver safety portfolio that also includes the Azuga Coach driver coaching program and a basic SafetyCam that can track harsh driver events.

“We were reducing accidents by 38 percent without dashcams and expect to cut accidents by half or more as more fleets adopt this technology,” said Azuga CEO Ananth Rani. “We’re excited to offer a solution that helps drivers reach their destinations safely and helps fleet operators reduce costs.”

Driver monitoring is becoming an increasingly popular safety feature in the latest generation of connected vehicles. The sensor specialist ams recently unveiled a new driver monitoring system with eye tracking tech from Eyeware, while NXP and Momenta announced that they were building their own system back in 2019.
