Amex, Insurance Company Launch Activity-Based Rewards Credit Card

November 27, 2019

American Express and Vitality Launch Activity-Based Rewards Credit Card

American Express and Vitality — a life insurance and investment company — have teamed up to launch a new credit card that rewards users based on how physically active they are.

The Vitality American Express Card — available to existing Vitality members with eligible policies — will offer cash-back rewards depending on how physically active the cardholder is and how much they spend in a given month.

In order to earn activity points, users will need to download the Vitality Today app on their smartphone and connect it to a compatible biometric activity tracking device. Activity goals include completing 7,000 or more steps in a day, going on a run, and visiting a gym.

Stacey Sterbenz, vice president of marketing at American Express, said: “We’re excited to launch this innovative new cashback credit card which rewards savvy, health conscious cardmembers for making positive changes to their wellbeing. Our partnership with Vitality is an important example of how we’re backing customers with rewards and benefits that enhance their lifestyles.”

“Working with American Express we are delighted to be introducing this Credit Card that uses this behavioural economic model and fuses it together with a person’s everyday spending, directly providing additional cashback linked to how active they are,” said Neville Koopowitz, the CEO Vitality.

The Vitality American Express Card is available now in the U.K., and the Vitality Today app is available for download on iOS and Android.
