YOUNIQX is teaming up with Nok Nok Labs to enhance the utility of its My Identity App (MIA). Through the partnership, YOUNIQX will integrate Nok Nok’s S3 Authentication Suite into MIA to deliver multi-factor authentication solutions for the web and mobile devices.
The new solution will meet Europe’s latest eIDAS standards, improving on MIA’s pre-existing FIDO compatibility. YOUNIQX itself is a digital identity specialist that operates as a subsidiary of the Austrian State Printing House, which is responsible for printing the Austrian passport. However, the company’s digital identity management solutions are available to other governments and enterprises in addition to the Printing House.
To that end, the improved MIA will be delivered to the government of Liechtenstein, which will use the app to transition from smart cards and passwords to a more secure mobile app that takes advantage of the biometric technology already present on many smartphones. The solution uses open-source technology to make it easy to deploy.
“We have seen security standards implemented in Europe lead to what the rest of the world eventually adopts,” said Nok Nok CEO Philip Dunkelberger. “Nok Nok is pleased to assist YOUNIQX to implement an authentication solution that provides a stronger security profile and supports biometric authentication based on the globally accepted FIDO standards.”
Nok Nok’s S3 Authentication Suite was named as the Best Mobile Authentication and Security Solution at the 2019 GLOMO Awards earlier this year. The company reiterated the importance of FIDO standards and the necessity of strong password-free security in the wake of a Wipro hack in April.
