BONAFiDEE has added liveness detection its Visual Biometric Verification solution. The platform utilizes facial recognition to match a new picture of a user with the image on a photo ID, which in turn allows organizations to verify the identities of their customers.
According to BONAFiDEE, the new layer of liveness detection will help guard against the growing threat of deepfake fraud. Once liveness detection is enabled, the platform will present each customer with a short phrase, and then ask the customer to quote that phrase in a video as part of the identification process. The system will set a different phrase for every single liveness test, so fraudsters cannot prepare a deepfake ahead of time to get past the check.
In that regard, BONAFiDEE’s liveness check is very much an active check, which differentiates it from passive liveness detection systems that can confirm someone’s presence without forcing them to perform any specific tasks. BONAFiDEE’s offering should nevertheless help guard against various forms of fraud, especially as deepfake technology continues to improve.
The Visual Biometric Verification solution is compatible with a wide range of devices, including tablets, smartphones, and personal computers. BONAFiDEE believes that its platform is well-suited to onboarding applications, and can help organizations reduce their abandonment rates while still fulfilling their Know Your Customer obligations.

In September, iProov established a new Security Operations Centre to help monitor the emergence of new deepfake threats all over the world. Researchers have also explored the possibility of using heartbeat detection to identify deepfake videos.
