CardLogix has launched a new rugged handheld with a slew of biometric features. The BIOSID tablet can be used to remotely enroll and authenticate individuals with iris, face, fingerprint, and signature recognition, and also boasts smart card reading and writing capabilities.
“The combination of digital authentication, biometric matching, and visual inspection with smart cards ensures highest-accuracy identity verification,” said CardLogix Sales Director Tom Hope. “With BIOSID, officers and guards can guarantee that a subject is who he or she claims to be with an easy-to-handle device from any location.”
The tablet itself is IP67-rated waterproof and dust-proof, and it’s drop resistant, with customization options that can be tailored to the security needs of a number of different locales, including businesses, schools, event venues, and healthcare and government facilities. The connectivity features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GSM support.
According to CardLogix, the BIOSID is priced competitively, although it did not disclose an official price point. The company is best known for its biometric payment card solutions, although it has previously provided credential validation software for a rugged tablet from Corvus. By releasing its own rugged tablet, CardLogix is adding unexpected range to its portfolio, and potentially finding new audiences for its smart card technology.
