FaceTec Anticipates Rise of Mobile ID With Enhanced SDK Platform

September 23, 2021

“Our v9.4 was built entirely in-house by our incredibly talented development team, and provides the best possible experience for our customers and their users in this new digital identity frontier.” – Kevin Alan Tussy, CEO, FaceTec

FaceTec has enhanced its biometric SDK platform with new capabilities, giving developers the chance to build even more secure and functional identity verification solutions.

FaceTec Anticipates Rise of Mobile ID With Enhanced SDK Platform

The company is renowned as one of the leading providers of biometric identity solutions. With selfie onboarding and face-based authentication enjoying booming popularity, FaceTec stands out thanks in part to its 3D face mapping technology, which delivers superior imaging and biometric recognition in comparison to the many 2D solutions on the market.

Now, FaceTec is looking to help developers working with its biometric solution to create even better end products with its enhanced Software Development Kit.

One of the biggest new features of version 9.4 is support for NFC chip scanning. Among other things, this will enable mobile identity solutions to read the data on ePassports featuring embedded chips and other such smart identity documents. The SDK also now supports barcode scanning, further enhancing the ability of developed products to interface with other documents.

The other big new feature is Optical Character Recognition (OCR), allowing mobile identity apps to read the text information on the photo IDs they scan. The SDK offers OCR language support for Latin, Cyrillic, and version 9.4 adds Arabic. In addition to allowing customers to easily create their own ID OCR templates, the FaceTec OCR Template Creator already supports more than 500 existing official photo IDs.

Beyond that FaceTec says the SDK offers faster and smarter auto-capture of photo IDs, and improved stability in the 3D FaceScan and ID Scan processes.

In a statement announcing the upgrade, FaceTec CEO Kevin Alan Tussy emphasized the SDK’s utility in the emerging mobile ID space. The past few years have seen the emergence of digital identity solutions designed to create mobile-based versions of official identity documents, with Apple having recently revealed that it plans to launch its own mobile driver’s license and state ID solution as early as this year.

“With the emergence of digital ID documents and mobile driver licenses (mDLs), we will all have the option to use our mobile devices as our official IDs quite soon,” said Tussy. “And while, of course, we want that convenience, to make the process secure we need to ensure that only the legitimate person can possess that Digital ID by authenticating them as the correct human user. Our v9.4 was built entirely in-house by our incredibly talented development team, and provides the best possible experience for our customers and their users in this new digital identity frontier.”

The new features of version 9.4 of the SDK platform are now available for free to all existing FaceTec customers.
