“Fingerprint Cards says its fingerprint sensor technology is now being used in every publicly announced biometric payment card trial around the world.”
Fingerprint Cards technology is now being used in 20 trials of biometric payment cards around the world, the company has announced. The latest such pilot program, which delivered the milestone, is with Crédit Agricole, the world’s largest cooperative financial institution.
Fingerprint Cards says its fingerprint sensor technology is now being used in every publicly announced biometric payment card trial around the world. Pilot programs are underway in Europe, the US, Asia, and the Middle East.
“These trials are essential to the success of the technology,” explained Fingerprint Cards smart cards VP Thomas Rex in a statement. “They are an opportunity to fine tune biometric cards with feedback from the people that will launch and use them and is also an important step in the certification process.”
Rex added that the current trials are “in the final phases before wider roll outs”, suggesting that Fingerprint Cards is poised to reap the benefits when major partners like Visa, Mastercard, and various banks proceed with large-scale launches of biometric credit and debit cards. This is an important focus area for the company, as indicated in its recent Q1 update, in which CEO Christian Fredrikson asserted that his firm “is very well positioned to capture a significant share of this emerging market.”
