“FPC has also been delving into the market, with the company’s fingerprint sensor technology having recently been integrated into a smart card used in a new casino in France..”
Fingerprint Cards is refining its leadership structure to help the company more effectively target the emerging smart cards market.
Currently, SVP Niklas Strid heads both FPC’s PC and smart cards business lines, but those roles are going to split. Strid will remain head of the PC arm, while Thomas Rex will take over as head of smart cards.
Numerous recent developments have pointed to growing excitement in the biometric smart card market, such as Mastercard’s trials of its own biometric payment cards. FPC has also been delving into the market, with the company’s fingerprint sensor technology having recently been integrated into a smart card used in a new casino in France. In a statement announcing the change, FPC CEO Christian Fredrikson said that smart cards represent “an important growth opportunity” for the company, adding, “there is currently a lot of activity within the eco-system to establish the partnerships needed for the market to accelerate in the coming years.”
Rex served as FPC’s head of sales for nearly five years, and is currently working in a business development role. He will take the helm of FPC’s smart cards business on September 1st.
