“…it seems that at least some users of Samsung devices in France are finding a French-language version of the Samsung Pay app, albeit one that is not yet functional.”
Samsung Pay is about to be launched in France, it seems.
There had been hints earlier this year, with Samsung reportedly engaged in negotiations with French banks this spring, and aiming for a September launch. Now, it seems that at least some users of Samsung devices in France are finding a French-language version of the Samsung Pay app, albeit one that is not yet functional.
The timing coincides with the global launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8, its latest smartphone to feature iris recognition in addition to a fingerprint scanner, and embedded support for Samsung Pay, which supports biometric authentication for digital transactions. It also comes after a period of considerable growth for the service elsewhere, with Samsung having asserted that Samsung Pay transactions quadrupled in South Korea over the past year.
Samsung Pay’s arrival in France will also come long after Apple Pay launched in the country, though it could still beat Android Pay to the punch.
