Goodix Places Biometric Sensors in New RedMagic Devices

March 9, 2021

Goodix sensors will be appearing in a pair of new RedMagic products from Nubia. The RedMagic Series 6 smartphones will come with Goodix’s optical in-display fingerprint sensor and AMOLED Touch Controller, while the RedMagic Watch will feature the company’s heart rate and blood oxygen detection sensor.

Goodix Places Biometric Sensors in New RedMagic Devices

The in-display fingerprint sensor is a flagship Goodix product, and has appeared in dozens of smartphones over the years. The sensor recently turned up in the new realme GT 5G, in addition to the Vivo X60, the OnePlus 8T, and the OPPO Reno5. All of those devices use the sensor to enable biometric authentication, allowing users to unlock their devices and access various applications with secure fingerprint technology.

The heart and blood oxygen detection sensor, on the other hand, is a newer product that speaks to Goodix’s efforts to diversify its portfolio. The sensor appeared in the realme Watch in May of 2020. The Goodix in-display fingerprint sensor in the new Xiaomi Mi 11 smartphone is also capable of heart rate detection.

Finally, the AMOLED Touch Controller was previously deployed in the P40 line of smartphones from Huawei. The P40 series includes the Huawei P40, the P40 Pro, and the P40 Pro+, all of which feature Goodix’s in-display fingerprint sensor alongside the Touch Controller.
