“…the new Google Pay supporters are mostly small and mid-range in size, with examples including the Bank of Colorado, Freedom Northwest Credit Union, and The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod.”
Google has dramatically extended its Google Pay payment platform’s base of support in the US, with the addition of 111 banks and credit unions to the roster of financial services institutions allowing their client cards to operate on the digital wallet.
With the most prominent national banks already onboard, the new Google Pay supporters are mostly small and mid-range in size, with examples including the Bank of Colorado, Freedom Northwest Credit Union, and The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod. As Android Police notes, the list of additions includes five “First National” banks, plus one “1st National” bank.
This latest batch of supporters comes after announcements of 65 financial services supporters in June and 171 in May.
The news also comes soon after Google’s announcement last month of improvements to its Google Pay app, including the integration of a peer-to-peer payments system and support for digital boarding passes and concert tickets in the Google Pay virtual wallet. It all paints an increasingly coherent picture of Google’s payments platform after an elaborate rebranding effort undertaken earlier this year.
