“…HID says it will introduce additional capabilities to the AR tool to help organizations take full advantage of information modelling, and to enhance communications between on-site workers and remote teams.”
HID Global is looking to make life easier for installers of its access control solutions with a cutting-edge new Augmented Reality solution.
Called the “HID AR Reader Tool”, the solution overlays images and data on a mobile device’s camera feed in order to provide special guidance for users. For example, and installer who downloads the app can use it to see animated instructions illustrating how to open a HID reader and plug in an OSDP or BLE module, right on their tablet’s screen as they’re aiming the camera at the reader. Instructions are also available pertaining to OSDP wiring and backplate installation.
And going forward, HID says it will introduce additional capabilities to the AR tool to help organizations take full advantage of information modelling, and to enhance communications between on-site workers and remote teams.
In HID’s announcement of the new AR solution, Physical Access Control Solutions Product Marketing VP Stephen Carney framed it as “the natural next step” in HID’s digital transformation. “By taking 3D data and placing it in the real world, the tool goes a long way in using AR technology to provide HID’s installer, integrator, consultant and specifier community with enhanced access control project design, review, collaboration, installation and support capabilities,” he explained.

The HID AR Reader Tool’s announcement comes on the heels of HID’s launch of a new cloud-based Identity and Access Management platform last week, and amid this week’s ISC West security conference, where six major turnstile makers are showcasing HID’s Mobile Access technology. The HID AR Reader Tool is available for Android and iOS tablets.
