Huami and AliveCor are joining forces to develop better heart rate monitors. AliveCor is a producer of personal ECG technology, while Huami is best known as a manufacturer of smart watches and other wearables.
The two companies will leverage their respective expertise to design and manufacture new ECG devices that are expected to ship globally in 2020. The announcement indicated that the devices would have new form factors and offer greater medical utility, but did not offer any specifics as to what that would entail.
The deal includes a licensing arrangement that will allow Huami to integrate AliveCor’s ECG tech into the rest of its wearable portfolio.
“AliveCor’s intelligent, medical grade, heart care platform will be a key component of Huami smart watches and heart trackers going forward,” said Huami CEO Wang Huang. “Our new partnership is critical to building these as well as entirely new medical grade services.”
“[Our] agreement achieves our goal of delivering AI driven subscription services to enterprise customers and consumers at affordable price points,” added AliveCor CEO Priya Abani.
Huami recently unveiled the Amazfit GTS smartwatch, which comes with a wide array of health and fitness applications. The company also integrated Amazon Alexa into the Amazfit Verge earlier this year.
