The GSMA may have been forced to abandon its plans for MWC Barcelona, but the organization is still doing its best to celebrate pioneering accomplishments in the mobile industry. The organization has officially announced the winners of the annual GLOMO Awards to recognize the companies and solutions that are driving mobile technology forward.
“The GLOMOs are a testament to the incredible innovation and ingenuity shaping our industry,” said GSMA CEO John Hoffman. “We thank all of our entrants, judges, sponsors and partners for supporting the 2020 GLOMOs.”
As in past years, Huawei was one of the night’s top winners. The Chinese tech giant was honored in six categories, repeating its strong performance in each of the past two years. The company garnered particular praise for its efforts in the realm of 5G, taking home the 5G Leadership Award and the 5G Industry Partnership Award.
Nuance Communications was one of the other highlights. The virtual assistant specialist received the prize for Best Mobile Authentication & Security Solution for its cloud-based Nuance Gatekeeper platform. Nuance Gatekeeper was unveiled back in October, and was named as the Most Innovative Biometrics solution at the recent InfoSec Awards.
Ericsson also picked up two awards for its Ericsson Spectrum Sharing platform.
The GLOMO Awards are typically presented during a ceremony at MWC Barcelona, but that event was ultimately cancelled due to ongoing concerns about COVID-19. However, the GSMA is already moving forward with plans for next year’s event.
The GSMA announced the GLOMO nominees back in January. Mobile ID World Editor in Chief Peter B. Counter once again served as one of the judges for the awards.
