Mobile World Congress was in full swing this week in Barcelona, and the GSMA announced Monday that Huawei was selected as the winner of the GSMA’S “Outstanding Contribution to the Mobile Industry Award” for 2018.
The award recognizes Huawei’s contributions to the development of the mobile industry and the advancement of mobile communications through playing a leading role in the areas of: devices, facial recognition, smart cities, smart grids, among other areas that prove it as an active force of the digital ecosystem.
Huawei has a strong focus on R&D with specific focus in cloud, AI, and 5G technology. From 2007 to 2016 the total investment in research and development was more than $48 billion US, with $11 billion in 2016 alone.
