IDEMIA has introduced a new Health Travel Pass that will make it easier for people to comply with international health screening regulations. The Travel Pass uses facial recognition to link someone’s identity to their COVID-19 test results and/or their vaccination record, giving them a way to confirm their health status while maintaining full control of their personal information.
Governments, meanwhile, will be able to screen incoming travelers with more confidence, since they will know that each person’s health certificate is legitimate. In that regard, the Travel Pass is virtually impossible to forge, while the use of facial biometrics prevents someone from sharing or transferring a valid credential with another individual.
The Travel Pass is verified with a Visible Digital Seal from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). That Seal can be distributed through a mobile health app, or embedded in a PDF document sent via email. It can also take on a physical form, in which case the Seal will be printed onto a sticker and placed on the visa page of the owner’s passport.
The Travel Pass can be integrated with the Digital Travel Credential that IDEMIA unveiled at the ICAO virtual conference in November. That Credential is based on IDEMIA’s Mobile ID technology, and provides travelers with a digital passport that they can present in lieu of a physical one at security checkpoints.
“We are proud to offer people a safe way to travel around again, with a solution which is secure, user-friendly, reliable, and totally GDPR compliant,” said IDEMIA Public Security & Identity EVP Philippe Barreau. “Our Health Travel Pass is a significant step forward in the resumption of international travel.”
The IDEMIA Health Travel Pass is currently being tested in the Netherlands. The company is hoping that the platform will improve public health outcomes and reduce processing times as the volume of airport traffic begins to rise in the wake of the pandemic. To that end, the Travel Pass is one of several health passports to emerge in recent months, joining a list that already includes CLEAR’s Health Pass, Daon’s VeriFLY, and Ping Identity’s Project COVID Freedom.
