“The biometric technology comes by way of Daon’s IdentityX platform, which was recently adopted for a similar mobile biometric authentication system specialized for the South Korean market.”
Mastercard has launched its Identity Check solution in Brazil and Mexico.
The system allows users to authenticate for mobile transactions via facial recognition, using their smartphone cameras, or fingerprint scan. The biometric technology comes by way of Daon’s IdentityX platform, which was recently adopted for a similar mobile biometric authentication system specialized for the South Korean market.
In a statement announcing its new launches, Mastercard Enterprise Risk & Security President Ajay Bhalla said the system is a product of Mastercard’s focus “on simplifying the online payment experience, without compromising security.”
Mastercard first started trialing the system in North America in the first half of this year, and brought it to Europe this autumn. Now, with its debut in Brazil and Mexico, it’s available in 16 countries.
