“The market for biometric smart cards is gaining considerable momentum. Our biometric sensors are ready for mass deployment in smart cards and we are delighted to be working in partnership with Sian to help achieve this.” – Stan Swearingen, CEO, IDEX Biometrics
IDEX Biometrics has found another Asia-based partner in its biometric payment cards efforts. The Norwegian company has announced that it has teamed up with Sian Intelligent Technology Co., a China-based manufacturer of dual-interface smart cards.
In announcing the partnership, IDEX asserted that it’s “seeing increasing demand for its biometric payment solutions,” and that the partnership is aimed at ensuring it can “accelerate mass volume production” to accommodate this demand. “IDEX Biometrics is working in close partnership with Sian to ensure successful integration of biometric components into smart cards,” the company said in a statement.
One of a number of fingerprint biometrics specialists angling for position in the emerging biometric payment cards market, IDEX has sought a particularly solid footing in Asia with multiple domestic partnerships. In its most recent fiscal update, the company highlighted recent alliances with card integrators including Goldpac Group, Chutian Dragon, and Hengbao.
“The market for biometric smart cards is gaining considerable momentum,” commented IDEX CEO Stan Swearingen. “Our biometric sensors are ready for mass deployment in smart cards and we are delighted to be working in partnership with Sian to help achieve this.”
The news comes in the same week that IDEX was highlighted as a ‘leading ecosystem player’ in a report from ABI Research forecasting growing EMV payment card issuance thanks in part to the emergence of fingerprint-scanning payment cards.
