“…the companies emphasized the power efficiency of Infineon’s Secure Elements, asserting that they can support contactless transactions “at significantly below 300ms”, allowing transactions to be performed in under a second.”
IDEX Biometrics has become the latest fingerprint sensor specialist to team up with Munich-based Infineon on biometric cards.
The companies have announced a partnership in which they will integrate IDEX technology into platforms featuring Secure Element solutions from Infineon. They will also jointly develop a “system-on-card demonstrator” for Infineon’s dual interface, 16-bit security controller, according to a statement from the firms.
In their announcement, the companies emphasized the power efficiency of Infineon’s Secure Elements, asserting that they can support contactless transactions “at significantly below 300ms”, allowing transactions to be performed in under a second.
Commenting further on the partnership, Infineon Payment & Wearables head Bjoern Scharfen said the collaboration “will allow us to define a sustainable path for a secure biometric ecosystem with highest performance,” adding, “Biometrics are the next innovation step for contactless payment cards, providing additional security and convenience to banks and consumers.”
The announcement comes after the news from earlier this month that Infineon had teamed up with another fingerprint sensor developer, NEXT Biometrics, to develop a reference design for biometric payment cards, further signalling the growing activity in this emerging market area.
