IDEX Prepares for Production of Biometric Access Cards for Major Deal

IDEX Biometrics is gearing up for the fulfillment of a multi-year, multi-million dollar order for its dual-interface fingerprint sensor solution.

The company first announced the order in April of this year. IDEX has not disclosed the name of its client, but described it in a statement as “a leading provider of global financial news and IT services”.

Its biometric technology will be leveraged in a biometric access control security solution, and to that end, IDEX is delivering its sensors “to one of the world’s largest electronics manufacturing service companies in order to qualify their manufacturing process,” according to a new statement from the company. IDEX added that this is “a critical step in any ramp-up process.”

IDEX is strongly focused on the emerging biometric payment and banking cards market, having recently established important licensing agreements with Chutian Dragon and IDEMIA concerning its on-card enrollment solution for fingerprint-scanning payment cards. But its technology is applicable in smart cards more broadly, offering applications beyond payment cards, such as in access control.

Commenting on the current efforts to deliver on IDEX’s deal with the financial news and IT services client, IDEX CEO Stan Swearingen suggested that the access control sector will be an increasingly important component of his company’s overall business strategy, adding that this client in particular is expected to more business going forward. “This is an exciting time for IDEX as we gear up volume production with our partners in what will be a cutting-edge, secure access solution,” he said. “We now expect a regular flow of purchase orders from this customer and look forward to being an integral part of the rollout of their enhanced biometric security solutions.”
