India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is set to launch the Digital Brand Identity Manual (DBIM) on February 18, 2025, establishing a unified digital brand identity across government platforms. The initiative builds upon India’s extensive digital transformation efforts, which include the successful implementation of the Aadhaar authentication system and DigiLocker digital identity system.
The DBIM initiative, part of the broader Gov.In: Harmonisation of Government of India’s Digital Footprint program, creates standard visual and functional elements across government websites and digital platforms. The program supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for technology-driven governance transformation, enhancing existing digital initiatives such as the mandatory Aadhaar verification for GST registration.
The comprehensive implementation strategy includes multiple components: the DBIM guide itself, a DBIM toolkit for adoption, a standardized GOV.IN CMS Platform, a Central Content Publishing System, and integrated social media branding protocols. The standardization comes at a crucial time, as India continues to expand its digital public infrastructure, recently launching a $25 million Social Impact Fund to support such initiatives.
The launch event, scheduled at Taj Palace, New Delhi, will feature the official release of the manual and the unveiling of MeitY’s new DBIM-compliant website. The program includes detailed discussions on harmonization components and capacity-building sessions for Chief Information Officers to facilitate implementation.
Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology and Commerce & Industry, Shri Jitin Prasada, will lead the launch ceremony, joined by representatives from MeitY, National Informatics Centre (NIC), MyGov, and various government ministries.
The DBIM standardizes elements such as color palettes, typography, and iconography across government digital platforms. The standardization aims to ensure consistency in government communications while improving user experience and service delivery efficiency. The initiative comes as India strengthens its cybersecurity measures, including the recent launch of a searchable cyber scammer database to combat digital fraud.
The initiative features a uniform visual identity across government websites, centralized content management capabilities, and streamlined digital service delivery mechanisms. The system reinforces the integrity of government-hosted data while enhancing citizen engagement through improved navigation and accessibility. The standardization becomes particularly important in light of recent security incidents, such as the vulnerability discovered in the Indian Post Office portal, highlighting the need for robust, unified digital security standards.
