Industry City Exhibit to Promote Collaboration at MWC Barcelona

February 22, 2022

The GSMA is introducing a new exhibit at this year’s MWC Barcelona event. Dubbed Industry City, the exhibition is intended to promote cooperation across different sectors, with demos that will show FinTech, manufacturing, and mobility stakeholders how they can use digital technologies to make their operations more efficient.

Industry City Exhibit to Promote Collaboration at MWC Barcelona

MWC Barcelona guests will be able to find Industry City in Hall 4 during regular exhibition hours. The entire event runs from February 28 to March 3, and will include a series of talks and a dedicated Industry City Security Summit on March 1.

“We are on a journey to digital everything, and it will take boundary-pushing experts from all sectors, not just telecoms, to help us get there,” said GSMA CTO Alex Sinclair. “5G technology enables leaps in efficiency for industry, and we look forward to bringing together leaders from automotive, manufacturing, fintech, and mobility to share their insight.”

The GSMA Foundry will also have a strong presence at Industry City through the GSMA Foundry Forge. The Forge will highlight some practical applications of digital technologies through a series of demos that are intended to spur cross-sector collaboration. For example, the Always On Network Service project is a Pakistani initiative to build more resilient operator networks to support key infrastructure such as banking and emergency services. The 5G Transformation Hub, on the other hand, is a digital portal that shows industries how to take advantage of 5G.

Other demos will include the Telco Edge Cloud and the 5G Autonomous Drones Project. The Edge Cloud is currently in a pre-commercial trial phase, and will help sustain large-scale networks of edge devices. The Drone Project, meanwhile, will live stream video of an autonomous drone that can take off and land with AI technology.

Accenture, Vinfast, and Citigroup are the primary sponsors for Industry City, while Palo Alto Networks and Kaspersky are backing the Security Summit. The GSMA will be adhering to its Committed Community health policy to maintain a safe working environment.
