Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) cards, biometric encoded ID smart cards that allow maritime transportation workers unescorted access to secure areas as a part of the pickup process, are going to be interacting with Lumidigm V-Series fingerprint sensors on a much more frequent basis now that the company has announced that approximately 400 locations are having Innometriks Rhino Touch readers installed.
The V-Series sensor, that of course features Lumidigm’s multi-spectral scanning technology, scans both the surface layer and sub-surface of a submitted fingerprint allowing for accurate readings in real environments that lend themselves to unclean hands.
Though the Rhino Touch exists to make sure that TWIC card holders are who they say they are by providing multi-factor access control, the solution providers responsible for it are aware that, ideally, high security should not come at the price of efficiency. John Cassise, CEO of Innometriks expands: “Besides verifying all the workings of a TWIC card, we’ve also made sure that the Rhino Touch is very convenient for transportation workers to use. The unit features a large touch screen for easy use and the Rhino Touch is customizable for various kiosk tasks.”
The Rhino Touch will be among the many access control technologies on show at next week’s Biometrics Consortium Conference (BCC) next week in Tampa, Florida. Those interested will beable to see a demonstration at the Lumidigm booth (329). If you are unable to attend the BCC, be sure to follow @MobileIDWorld on Twitter for live reporting from the showroom floor.
