Mastercard is buying Brighterion, Inc., an AI software developer. The companies have agreed to undisclosed terms, with the deal now being finalized.
In a statement announcing the acquisition, Mastercard indicated that it will see the adoption of Brighterion’s Smart Agent technology, which “will be added to Mastercard’s advanced suite of security products already using artificial intelligence.” Brighterion CEO Dr. Akli Adjaoute added that his company has already been working with Mastercard for years, and said that the acquisition will see the companies “building on that foundation and providing an industry-leading, holistic and seamless security experience.”
That’s very much in line with the aims of Mastercard’s recent acquisition of NuData Security, whose behavioral biometrics technology is used to passively detect fraud threats without the need for additional authentication from end users. The acquisitions indicate that Mastercard is growing increasingly interested in unobtrusive digital security solutions, perhaps particularly with respect to its growing Masterpass digital payments platform.
