Mastercard is once again taking the opportunity of The Barclays golf tournament to promote its mobile payment technologies.
Last year, it partnered with the PGA Tour event primarily in support of its Qkr! mobile app, which lets users order and pay for food using their mobile devices; The Barclays spectators will once again be able to get their snacks without having to leave their seats.
While Qkr! was linked to Mastercard’s Masterpass digital wallet last year, the company is making a bigger push for the latter this time around. The platform has since blossomed into a serious mPayment platform competing against the likes of Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, allowing users to make mobile, contactless payments using their smartphones’ NFC technology. In a statement announcing this year’s collaboration, Mastercard’s marketing and communications head, Raja Rajamannar, explained that it will be “an exciting week as attendees will be among the first to experience the digital future of Mastercard at a preeminent PGA TOUR event, The Barclays.”
The tournament takes place in Farmingdale, New York, and starts August 25th.
