Mastercard has announced a new Digital Vendor Directory to assist partners seeking to leverage its digital payment solutions, particularly its Masterpass platform.
The directory lists global and regional vendors that can help organizations integrate Masterpass and tokenization into their own digital wallet platforms. Each vendor is given a “standard”, “gold”, or “platinum” ranking in accordance with its compatibility with Masterpass and the Mastercard Digital Enablement Service.
In a statement announcing the directory, Mastercard Digital Payments & Labs SVP Kiki Del Valle explained that it’s meant to “make it easier for issuers to learn about a wide range of digital offerings available to them”.
The effort could help to extend the reach of Masterpass as Mastercard seeks to compete against emerging digital payment platforms from companies like Apple, which has been expanding its payment service beyond mobile payments, and PayPal, which has likewise been moving from web payments to the mobile realm; Masterpass is meant to extend across all such channels.
