The GSMA is offering further details on this year’s Mobile World Congress, which is shaping up to be “one of the most varied and exciting ever,” according to Chief Marketing Officer Michael O’Hara.
The organization has announced over a dozen new keynote speakers, including Huawei rotating CEO Xu Zhijun, Orange CEO Stéphane Richard, and US Federal Communications Commission Ajit Pai. The GSMA has also announced the focus areas for its 2017 MWC Tours designed to help attending groups navigate the event: 5G and Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV), IoT Security, and Retail and Digital Commerce, among others.
Wearable technology will also get some time in the spotlight through IED Barcelona Fashion Tech Show ‘ECOcyborg’, a live art performance program being led by IED Barcelona Design University’s creative director and Fashion School director. That event is part of the concurrently running Youth Mobile Festival (YoMo) at the Montjuïc venue.
With the GSMA also having recently announced a range of Global Mobile Awards nominees in a wide range of areas, from mobile handsets to women in tech leadership to mobile tech in smart cities, this year’s MWC is shaping up to be an extremely varied event. It will run from February 27th to March 2nd in Barcelona.
