MobileIron has unveiled a new anti-phishing solution for iOS and Android mobile devices. The platform has been dubbed “MobileIron Threat Defense” (MTD), and it is designed to extend a company’s email protections across all communication channels on an employee’s device.
To that end, MTD will monitor texts, messages, instant messages, apps, and other channels to watch for any suspicious links an employee may receive. MTD will then match those links against a database of URLs that have been associated with phishing attacks, and take proactive steps to ensure that employees do not click on those links and expose the company to malware and a possible data breach.
MTD is managed remotely through a company’s IT department, and specifically through the unified endpoint management (UEM) client that MobileIron used to build the MTD platform. As a result, the end user does not need to take any additional steps once their device has been registered with the system. MTD is available as an on-device and cloud-based security solution.
“All it takes is one click on a malicious link for a hacker to compromise a user’s ID and password, and gain access to a goldmine of data,” said MobileIron Product Management SVP Brian Foster. “Unfortunately, hackers are exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic and targeting mobile devices and applications, which remote workers are using to access corporate data.
“It is hard to verify the authenticity of links on a mobile device. Companies need a solution that detects phishing attacks across all vectors, while empowering employees to be productive.”
In that regard, MobileIron noted that 22 percent of all data breaches stem from phishing attacks. Despite the risks, many C-suite executives will also try to get around security protocols that add too many steps to their workflow.
MTD is currently available on iOS devices, and will be coming to Android devices relatively soon. The solution is compatible with MobileIron zero sign-on, which debuted a year ago and allows employees to use their mobile device to log into cloud services without a password.
