Morpho (Safran) has partnered with Avnet Memec – Silica, a Europe-based electronic components distributor, to develop flexible connectivity solutions for the emerging Internet of Things market.
The deal revolves around remote SIM provisioning, with the MorphoFlex modular eSIM being integrated into Avnet Memec – Silica’s Visible Things platform. This will enable the companies to offer MNOs agnostic connectivity solutions offering SIMalliance compatibility and compliance with GSMA V3.0 M2M remote SIM provisioning specifications.
The solutions could offer dramatically reduced costs, not to mention improved coverage, for MNOs and OEMs, particularly those working in the industrial Internet of Things, as they should substantially reduce the need to build multiple versions of the same products to deal with regional variations in connectivity specifications. Commenting in a statement, Morpho executive Yves Portalier explained that the collaboration with Avnet Memec – Silica “creates an ideal platform to leverage the extensive possibilities of flexible connectivity services for future-oriented IoT applications,” adding, “Managing connectivity on as needed basis decisively enables service providers to optimize coverage, costs and capability.”
The companies are demonstrating their solutions at this year’s Mobile World Congress, as well as the Embedded World conference.
