Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced plans to launch a new mobile application that will replace its existing Pak ID web portal, with the transition scheduled for January 17, 2025. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi revealed that the new mobile app features significant improvements in security and user experience, building upon NADRA’s previous mobile identity initiatives.
The initiative comes as part of NADRA’s broader efforts to modernize its digital services and enhance security measures. The new mobile platform will provide comprehensive access to all NADRA services, including ID cards, National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP), Pakistan Origin Card (POC), B-form, and Family Registration Certificate (FRC). Citizens will be able to complete all documentation procedures remotely, addressing a key challenge in Pakistan’s digital identity infrastructure.
The transition specifically addresses challenges faced by users, particularly overseas Pakistanis, in uploading fingerprints and required documents through the web portal. The update follows NADRA’s recent improvements to its digital systems for overseas citizens. The initiative also aims to combat fraudulent activities involving counterfeit websites creating fake identity documents, a growing concern that has prompted collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Foreign Affairs with NADRA to address these security concerns.
As part of its service expansion, NADRA will establish three new regional centers in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gwadar, and Gilgit-Baltistan, scheduled to begin operations by March 31, 2025. The centers aim to improve communication between NADRA officials and citizens in remote areas, complementing the organization’s recent introduction of home delivery services for identity documents.
Regarding fee structures, NADRA has maintained its existing rates for Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) in January 2025. The standard fee for a new Smart National Identity Card remains at Rs750, with urgent processing available at Rs1,500 and executive category service at Rs2,500. The Child Registration Certificate (CRC), commonly known as the B-form, continues to be available at Rs50 for regular service and Rs500 for executive service, supporting NADRA’s commitment to accessible identity services.
For CNIC applications, individuals must provide a birth certificate or matriculation result card, along with a copy of a family member’s CNIC. The requirement is part of NADRA’s enhanced verification process, which includes biometric authentication and document validation to ensure the integrity of Pakistan’s national identity system.
