Gemalto has announced a new solution in its Cinterion line of IoT modules that offers 12 band LTE, 3G, and 2G connectivity.
The company says its Cinterion PLS62-W IoT Module is the first of its kind in terms of not only offering LTE Cat. 1 connectivity across 12 LTE bands, but also allowing devices to seamlessly fall back to 3G or even 2G networks where 4G is not available. The module also comes with embedded Java-based processing capabilities, and features a sleep mode designed to maximize its battery life.
In a statement announcing the solution, Gemalto IoT Products SVP Andreas Haegele said it offers “a one stop shop for cellular IoT connectivity,” and said it’s “[i]deal for worldwide tracking and tracing, telematics and fleet management solutions”.
The Cinterion PLS62-W’s announcement comes soon after Gemalto’s news that its Cinterion LTE-M platform had received certification from Verizon, suggesting that the firm is placing a strong focus on its IoT connectivity solutions business.
