New iPhones to Feature Face ID, Even Budget-Friendly LCD Model: Reports

August 28, 2018

“Overall, iPhone shipments are expected to reach 70-75 million units by the end of the year, forecasting a resurgence of popularity not seen since the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.”

With this autumn’s anticipated new iPhone launches fast approaching, details about the products – and their market expectations – are getting more specific.New iPhones to Feature Face ID, Even Budget-Friendly LCD Model: Reports

According to anonymous industry sources who spoke to DigiTimes, Apple will indeed launch three new iPhone models. As many have been speculating, one of the three models will be a budget-friendly upgrade of last year’s iPhone 8, a 6.1″ device sporting an LCD display; the other two models, measuring in at 5.8″ and 6.5″, will essentially be upgrades of the iPhone X launched last year, and will feature OLED screens.

9to5Mac, meanwhile, reports that the 6.1″ LCD model will be priced at about $700, and is expected to be the most popular of the three by far, with sales anticipated to nearly double those of the 5.8″ and 6.5″ devices combined. Overall, iPhone shipments are expected to reach 70-75 million units by the end of the year, forecasting a resurgence of popularity not seen since the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Notably, according to 9to5Mac, all of these new iPhone models will feature Face ID, even the budget-friendly LCD model. Ever since Apple launched its 3D facial recognition system with the iPhone X last autumn, analysts have been speculating as to whether the company was planning a definitive switch away from the Touch ID fingerprint authentication system; and while 9to5Mac doesn’t cite its source in asserting that Face ID will arrive on all of the new 2018 phones, it isn’t the first outlet to make that prediction.
