CyberLink has formed a strategic partnership with IEI Integration Corp. The alliance will bring CyberLink’s FaceMe facial recognition platform to IEI’s industrial computers, thereby extending its reach to AIoT devices in a broad range of industries and environments.
FaceMe is expected to generate a 17.4x facial recognition performance increase when paired with the Mustang-V100-MX8 video processing unit (VPU) in IEI’s FLEX-BX200 AI modular box PC. The pairing will also accelerate AI innovation more generally.
The FaceMe engine has performed well in NIST testing. It achieved a top 15 ranking in the Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT) WILD 1E-4 category, which measures facial recognition performance in retail, smart city, and surveillance settings. CyberLink and IEI are hoping to reach potential customers in each of those sectors, in addition to several others.
“The demand for facial recognition is booming,” said CyberLink COO Mei Ku. “The collaboration with IEI optimizes performance of the FaceMe engine across edge devices, creating flexible solutions for various scenarios within retail, home, security and public safety sectors.”
“Our products are designed for deployment to match the needs of various industries, including factory automation, networking, national defense, road traffic and medical solutions,” said IEI Senior Associate VP Don Yu. “IEI provides a complete solution for AI edge computing and helps customers establish smart solutions leveraging the latest advancements in facial recognition.”
The announcement builds on CyberLink’s strong start to 2020. The company has already formed a FaceMe partnership with the surveillance specialist VIVOTEK, while iMedtac is leveraging FaceMe to distribute controlled substances through its new Automated Dispensing Cabinet.
CyberLink previously teamed up with Advantech in an effort to make FaceMe more appealing to IoT and AIoT developers. Integrating Advantech’s AIR Inference System yielded a 20-fold performance increase, and may have played a role in IEI’s decision to ally with CyberLink.
