Newly Granted BehavioSec Patents Detail Mobile-based Behavioral Biometrics, Social Engineering Detection

June 18, 2021

“These additions to our patent portfolio are geared towards increasing visibility and improving detection capabilities to offer our customers the most comprehensive security, fighting fraud before it happens.” – Neil Costigan, CEO, BehavioSec

Newly Granted BehavioSec Patents Detail Mobile-based Behavioral Biometrics, Social Engineering Detection

BehavioSec has been granted two additional US patents for its behavioral biometrics technology, bringing the total number of BehavioSec patents granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office to 24.

One of the patents, titled “Continuous Authentication Based on Motion Input Data”, details how motion input related to the manipulation of a smartphone’s virtual keyboard could be used to continuously authenticate the user. In a statement, BehavioSec described the technology as offering “a leap forward in protecting the over 3 billion Android devices in use today,” adding that it would let BehavioSec customers “double the actionable intelligence gleaned from each Android keystroke”.

The other patent that has just been granted by the USPTO covers technology designed specifically to detect and block social engineering attacks, in which an end user is tricked or coached into engaging in fraudulent transactions. Building on a previous BehavioSec patent, it details how subtle behavioral anomalies can be detected to spot signs of hesitation and stress, which in turn may indicate that the end user is being manipulated by third party actor.

The patent’s title is self-explanatory: “Method and A Device for Denying or Nullifying a Specific Online Transaction Carried Out by an Authorized User who is Coached by a Fraudster”.

“In order to reduce fraudulent activity, customers need to be protected where it matters most, their digital identity,” commented BehavioSec CEO Neil Costigan. “These additions to our patent portfolio are geared towards increasing visibility and improving detection capabilities to offer our customers the most comprehensive security, fighting fraud before it happens.”

The patent grants point to the sophistication of BehavioSec’s platform, BehavioSense, version 5.4 of which was announced last month. The upgraded platform features performance improvements including a much faster enrollment process for new users, and enhanced capabilities in detecting Remote Access Trojans and other cyberthreats.
