“In a statement announcing the rebrand, IDEMIA explained that the new name was chosen ‘in reference to powerful terms: Identity, Idea and the Latin word idem,’ a term used to refer to a previously mentioned author.”
One of the biggest names in the identity industry has now changed its name. OT-Morpho has now officially become IDEMIA.
The brand change comes just half a year after Oberthur Technologies merged with Safran Identity & Security to form OT-Morpho, suggesting that the latter name was always something of a placeholder.
In a statement announcing the rebrand, IDEMIA explained that the new name was chosen “in reference to powerful terms: Identity, Idea and the Latin word idem,” a term used to refer to a previously mentioned author. The company also asserted that it now comprises 14,000 employees, with 2,000 working in R&D alone; and that its key focus areas are “Financial Institutions, Mobile Operators, Connected Objects, Citizen Identity, and Public Security.”
The name change was announced at a 2,000-guest gathering at La Seine Musicale, and comes ahead of IDEMIA’s first – and eagerly anticipated – fiscal update, scheduled for October 6th.
