Keeper Security has announced a new update for its namesake mobile password manager. The Keeper app is now available for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.
The update is a big one, as now Keeper leverages Android 6.0’s native fingerprint sensor capabilities for biometric authentication as a password replacement. Users need only to scan their fingers to gain access to their Keeper accounts, which contain their passwords and other personal data.
Additionally, the upgraded app introduces Keeper FastFill, a feature that autofills forms on native Android browsers and apps.
In a press release announcing the update, Keeper Security co-founder and CTO Craig Lurey explained that the upgraded app is meant to “save customers time and make their devices and online activity on their smartphones more safe,” adding that the company offers “biometric and autofill support so their experience with Keeper is seamless and secure.”
While there have been some serious concerns of late about Google’s approach toward user security, its introduction of biometric authentication capabilities in Android 6.0 is undeniably a step in the right direction, following in the footsteps of Apple’s Touch ID system. As more developers take advantage of these capabilities, Android users’ data should be increasingly secure.
