Portugal’s NOS Gets a Boost from IDEMIA’s eSIM Tech

Portugal's NOS Gets a Boost from IDEMIA's eSIM Tech

IDEMIA has found another customer for its eSIM management platform. The company has announced that Portugal’s NOS Comunicaçöes will be integrating IDEMIA’s eSIM tech into its portfolio, with a contract that includes a subscription manager, professional services, and a three-year support and maintenance period to facilitate the transition.

“NOS is proud to be the first operator in Portugal to offer an eSIM subscription management commercial service,” said Daniel Beato, the head of Business-to-Consumer Product & Marketing at NOS. “The capabilities to deploy the solution in a short timeframe and [IDEMIA’s] proven experience in eSIM management was fundamental to the process.”

For the time being, NOS customers will need to scan a physical QR code voucher to activate their eSIM devices. However, the company plans to switch to digital vouchers in the future.

The news reflects IDEMIA’s recent efforts to expand in the eSIM space, and comes a few months after IDEMIA formed a similar eSIM partnership with MobileIron. According to IDEMIA (via ABI research), 224 million eSIM devices were shipped in 2018, and that number is expected to skyrocket to 700 million devices by 2022.
