“The refinements were made primarily to better target the software solution to smart card applications…”
Precise Biometrics has refined its Precise BioMatch Embedded algorithm software to enable support for even smaller fingerprint sensors.
The company says its software now supports sensors as small as 30mm², and that it can operate via power-efficient microcontrollers. The refinements were made primarily to better target the software solution to smart card applications, with market excitement over emerging solutions like biometric payment cards on the rise.
In a statement announcing the upgrade, Precise Biometrics CEO Håkan Persson said “[c]onsumers are eager to start using biometric payment cards as seen from the first market trials earlier this year,” adding that his firm’s software solution “will accelerate the introduction of biometric smart cards by lowering total product costs and maintaining high biometric performance.”
News of the upgrade comes after Precise Biometrics’ announcement earlier this month that Precise BioMatch Embedded is being used in the new T-Shape biometric sensor module for smart cards. The module was developed by Precise Biometrics’ longtime hardware partner Fingerprint Cards, and recently saw its first order from Danish smart cards specialist CardLab.
Precise Biometrics says its upgraded software solution will be available to customers starting this December.
