The FIDO Alliance has continued to gain traction in 2019, and is increasingly becoming the security standard that tech manufacturers are expected to meet before competing in the modern marketplace.
At least, that’s the takeaway from the list of companies that achieved some form of FIDO certification in the first quarter of the year. The roundup includes some of the biggest tech conglomerates in the world, indicating that even the industry’s most powerful players are hoping to reap the security and convenience benefits of strong password-free authentication.
So who’s on the list? Highlights include Google, which received FIDO2 certification for the entire Android platform, and Samsung, which received FIDO’s first Biometric Component Certification for the in-display fingerprint sensor in its Galaxy S10 smartphones.
Other companies to receive FIDO certification include Daon (FIDO UAF and FIDO2) and Yubico (FIDO U2F and FIDO2), as well as Egis Technology, Feitian, Hyundai, NXP, and StrongKey, all of which received FIDO2 certification. FIDO2 proved to be the most desirable certification, continuing a trend that has been ongoing since the standard was first established just over a year ago.
All told, the news suggests manufacturers are actively working to establish a reliable security standard that covers the entire digital ecosystem. That, in turn, should allow consumers to have more trust in their technology.
