Sacombank, a leading Vietnamese commercial bank, has announced a new strategic partnership with RAR Centre to implement biometric authentication technology across its digital banking services. The initiative supports Vietnam’s national mandate requiring biometric authentication for banking services by 2025, part of the country’s broader efforts to combat high-tech fraud.
The partnership involves integrating RAR Centre’s biometric authentication solutions, including facial recognition and fingerprint scanning capabilities, into Sacombank’s existing digital banking infrastructure. The technologies will complement Vietnam’s recent implementation of stricter data protection measures and electronic identification requirements.
“Sacombank is committed to providing our customers with the most secure and convenient banking experience possible,” said Mr. Nguyen Duc Thach, Deputy General Director of Sacombank. “Our partnership with RAR Centre will enable us to offer cutting-edge biometric authentication solutions that meet the highest standards of security and user experience.”
The implementation process began with a comprehensive assessment of Sacombank’s systems to identify optimal integration points for biometric authentication, with RAR Centre providing technical expertise throughout the deployment phase. The approach follows a growing trend in Southeast Asian banking sectors, where financial institutions are increasingly adopting sophisticated biometric verification systems to enhance security.
“Biometric authentication is becoming increasingly important in the banking sector due to its high level of security,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, an IT expert at RAR Centre. “Our technology ensures that transactions are secure while also providing a seamless user experience.”
The integration is expected to enhance security through the use of unique biometric identifiers, improve customer convenience by eliminating the need for passwords or tokens, and increase transaction processing speed by reducing manual verification requirements. The shift toward passwordless authentication reflects a broader industry trend, as financial institutions worldwide seek to balance security with user convenience.
Sacombank plans to expand biometric authentication across all its digital channels, including mobile banking applications and online platforms. “We envision a future where our customers can enjoy secure and hassle-free banking experiences across all our digital platforms,” said Mr. Thach. “Our partnership with RAR Centre is just the beginning of this journey towards a more secure and convenient banking ecosystem.”
The implementation comes at a time when Vietnamese financial institutions are rapidly modernizing their digital infrastructure to comply with new regulatory requirements and meet growing customer demands for secure, convenient banking services. The country’s banking sector has seen significant advancement in biometric technology adoption, with several major banks already implementing various forms of biometric authentication for their digital services.
