Samsung has launched the beta program for One UI 7, introducing significant updates to both the user interface and security features of Galaxy smartphones. The beta release is currently accessible to Galaxy S24 series users in select markets including India, South Korea, Germany, Poland, the UK, and the US, marking the latest evolution of Samsung’s mobile operating system that has been steadily expanding its security and authentication capabilities.
The update introduces several AI-powered capabilities, including writing assistance tools that enable users to summarize content, check grammar, and reformat text within applications. A new call transcription feature supports 20 languages, while the camera interface has been redesigned with simplified Pro and Pro video modes and improved zoom controls.
One UI 7 implements a new lock screen notification system called Now Bar, which provides centralized access to features like Music, Interpreter, and Stopwatch without requiring device unlock. The home screen and widget layouts have been simplified to offer enhanced customization options, building on Samsung’s efforts to streamline user interactions.
Security enhancements feature prominently in the update through Samsung’s Knox system. A new security dashboard enables users to monitor the security status of their phone and other Samsung smart devices using Knox Matrix and Trust Chain, a secure private blockchain system. Following the industry trend toward passwordless authentication, as seen in recent developments in payment systems, the update introduces Passkeys as an alternative to traditional passwords, along with a new Identity Check feature that adds biometric authentication requirements when potential PIN compromises are detected.
The integration of blockchain technology for security follows similar implementations in government and financial sectors, where blockchain-based digital identity systems have demonstrated enhanced security and user privacy. Samsung’s Trust Chain system represents a significant step in bringing this technology to consumer devices.
Additional security features include faster data backup recovery using device security methods and the option to block 2G network access, addressing longstanding security vulnerabilities in legacy cellular networks. Users can also prevent automatic reconnection to specific Wi-Fi networks, providing greater control over network security.
Users can join the beta program through the Samsung Members app by logging in, selecting the One UI 7 Beta Program banner, completing enrollment, and installing the update through their device’s Settings menu.
Samsung has announced it will discontinue support for the DeX for PC app on Windows with the One UI 7 update, directing users to utilize the ‘Link to Windows’ feature as an alternative. This change aligns with Samsung’s broader strategy to streamline its ecosystem integration with Windows, following the company’s expanded partnership with Microsoft in recent years.
