The organizers of this year’s Cartes Secure Connexions event have announced the winners of their Sesames Awards. Reflecting broader market trends, many of this year’s Sesames winners are involved in digital security, and mobile commerce and payments.
Oberthur Technologies was the big winner, having taken awards in three of the 11 categories. Its EMV payment card cybersecurity solution won in the Best Connected Objects Applications category, while its OT Flying mPOS system, which converts a mobile device into a contactless POS for merchants, won in the Best Mobile Security Solution category; meanwhile, its cityGO Ticket CIPURSE L, a contactless smart ticket for public transportation, won in the Best Transportation Application category.
Other winners whose offerings are involved in digital payments include Spire Payments and Verifone for their mobile POS solutions, and Famoco for its Bitcoin encryption technology. Two other winners – NISS Group and QiCard & International Smart Card – won for products related to identity authentication.
The winners are indicative of clear trends rocking the world of payments and commerce – the ongoing digital revolution, the increasing prevalence of mobile devices in digital commerce and payments, and the rising need for advanced security technologies to complement these trends.
