ROC.ai’s facial recognition technology will power Yoti’s selfie-based identity verification software, thanks to a new agreement between the companies.
ROC.ai is acclaimed for its commitment to technological advancement; the company reached Level 2 of iBeta’s Presentation Attack Detection evaluation program this past summer, and more recently added iris recognition to its solutions portfolio. But the company is perhaps just as well known for its commitment to “delivering technology that respects privacy and works for all races, ages and genders,” as Yoti phrased it in a statement announcing the partnership.
“ROC.ai is a much admired and respected provider of lightweight, built for speed, leading facial recognition software and Yoti is committed to offering its business customers world class identity and biometrics solutions,” said Yoti CEO Robin Tombs. “Like Yoti, the ROC.ai team is committed to ethical use of biometrics to make the world more secure and convenient, without bias or threats to privacy.”
Yoti, meanwhile, is a prominent player in the digital identity space, offering a privacy-focused platform that encompasses not only selfie-based identity verification, but also age assurance. Last month, it brought the latter technology to Avakin Life, a large-scale multiplayer video game from Lockwood Publishing; and it has also petitioned the US Federal Trade Commission to approve the use of “Privacy-Protective Facial Age Estimation” technology in obtaining parental consent under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act Rule.
Its selfie-based identity verification technology, meanwhile, has seen a range of applications, from dating apps to background checks for recruitment.
Scott Swann, the CEO of ROC.ai, lauded Yoti for its “recognised stature in the digital identity space” and for its “commitment to ethical, transparent technology”, asserting that his team is “incredibly bullish” about the partnership.
